I started something this year and I'll see how it pans out next Christmas. I made each of my older two kids their own little quilt item as one of their Christmas gifts and they opened them on Christmas morning. Then, on Christmas day night, I told them they could choose one of the quilts I have hung up or on display in the house as part of their Christmas 09. Of course I had my favorite quilt projects hung up and out, and while it was hard to part with two of my quilts, it gave me a lot of pleasure watching them choose what they wanted and knowing they will be enjoying them as they take them back to their homes. I think I'll do that again next year.

I thought sure my daughter would choose the wall quilt hanging in my hallway (the pretty purple one I had posted here somewhere). I had it professionally long-armed, and just absolutely loved it. But she chose the little quilt I have in the hall bathroom - there was a matching piece on the toliet she wanted, too -- I said sure. I thought my son would choose the one I made from scraps I had from a quilt I'd made him a couple of years ago. But he chose an older paper-pieced wall quilt. Go figure! I'm attaching what my daughter took. I don't have a picture of the one my son took (agh!).

I LOVE your idea & new tradition!! The pieces that your DD picked are so lovely. I can see why she would want them. Your DS picked out the one that drew him to it. Isn't that wonderful? Thank you for sharing your special Christmas project with all of us, here on the QB.

I like that idea...may have to do that some year. Of course, I'll put away all my favorites. :-))

wow. This is an awesome idea. I may try something like that. If not in 2010 then in the next year or two.
