Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share what I did today with my youngest granddaughter who is 4 years old. Her brother was busy watching IronMan with his papaw.
My ambition this summer was to start my granddaughters learning to quilt. Maria did a great job listening as I was explaining the pressure foot, foot pedal & most important, keeping her fingers away from the metal foot. I started her out on just sewing paper with no thread, then I drew lines for her to follow. She was on her way & Granny had tears streaming down her face as Maria was saying how fun it was to sew like me. I got out a piece of felt & cut it in squares & she started sewing them together with my guidance. Maria sewed for 2 hours. She wants to finish the other squares tomorrow & make me a pin cushion.
IF it goes as she plans, I will post a pic of it!

I originally planned to start them on my machine, but I got this Singer Pixie on a very good clearance. I am so proud of her accomplishments today.

Never too young to quilt. Make sure you get some pictures for her to have later.

Look at that! My daughter, almost 6, really wants a sewing machine! So great to see the younger ones enjoying this!

I don't know what happened to my story :(
Maria started sewing today on the new machine. She is 4 years old. I started her on paper... then with sewing lines that I drew. She was doing so well, I cut felt in squares & she sewed them together with me right behind her, guiding her & watching. She already had instuctions from me about watching her fingers, the presser foot lever & the foot pedal. I had tears streaming down my face. I was so thrilled. She is making me a pin cushion, she says. So IF it all goes well tomorrow I will post a pic of it.
Machine is a Singer Pixie & I got it on a great clearance. I had planned on all the grands learning this summer to quilt. The youngest started first.

How cute she is quilting! My grandmother wanted to teach me how to knit and crochet, but her arthritis kept her from doing it. She encouraged me to do needlework and I have been doing it since I was young. Now I am quilting too.
