    Default New to quilting

Just learning to quilt. Have a chance to buy a used Bernette 20 sewing machine. Would this be a good machine to start with?

The Bernettes don't have a good reputation. But it depends on the price you can get it for and if it actually runs. I have no idea what new ones sell for but most anecdotal reports I have read on the net about Bernettes are not so good.

You may be better off searching Craigs List for a nice vintage machine you can get for less than $50 to start.

    PS welcome to the board

I have no knowledge of the machine you are referring to, so cannot give any advice. I just wanted to welcome you to the board, and warn you that quilting is wonderfully addictive!

Someone else will jumpin if I am wrong but I believe they were ade by bernina as the lower model and don't have the reputation of a bernina. Why not visit your local sewing machine shop or search the web for price comparisons.

I don't know anything about this machine, but you might sew on it and see how it feels?

Welcome to quilting. I hope you enjoy it half as much as I do!

A co-worker bought one new several years ago and was not happy with it. She said it was very noisey. So try it out first.
