As far as the 1/4" foot (or piecing foot), if you have one, that's great. I do now & it's definitely handy, but I started off without one & did just fine. There are plenty of YouTube videos out there when you're ready for them (or a class can teach you) about how to measure 1/4" from your needle & just put a stack of 4-5 post-its down as your 1/4" guide for your fabric. There are enough other little things to invest in without having to spend money on one of those, too before you even make one quilt.

I haven't read at the responses but if you live near a JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby sign up for their flyers or get their apps to take advantage of their discount coupons. I very seldon purchase anything that is not on sale or I have a coupon for.

You might consider joining the Quilt Guild in your area. They could refer you to all kinds of services close by, like classes, long arm quilters, lists of all the fabric stores in your area. Most don't require you to join right away so you could go a couple of times and see if you click with any other quilters.
Happy quilting. May your stash & scraps grow like weeds!

I want to add you should get some good quality sewing machine oil to keep your machine running well. This may seem like an obvious accessory but I wanted to mention it because it is so important. Happy quilting!
