As many of you know we moved from Iowa to Nebraska this past year. (Still moving stuff from shop!!LOL) In doing so I finally got a beautiful sewing room with lots of space. ( Or so I thought before everything started going in there!!) It is on the main level and Hubby is now in the basement in his Nebraska cave. The trouble is I think both of us are lonely. Our old rooms used to be across the hall from each other and we could actually talk to each other. (With the tv and cd player muted.) Now we have to go find one anther!! I'm wondering if I'm going to end up in the basement with him!! LOL.

Have a good 2011 everyone.

My hubby put a 60 inch tv in the room I just made my new sewing room so he watches football or works on his blackberry or laptop (he works from home) and we are together. I love it because we spent the better part of the last 25 years apart since he was a Marine and deployed often :)

My husband will play poker on the computer which is in my sewing room when I sew late at night. It is the best way to keep me off of here and to keep me stitching!

My DH sends me text messages from his basement. And he drifts in thoughout the day when necessity dictates he come up. If he had a frig and bathroom down there, I'd never see him! I can't stand to be down there. It's a nice room, but no windows. I get really clautrophobic in about 15 minutes. That's pretty much my limit.

My sewing room and DH's cave are on opposite sides of the house. When I need him or anything, I just YELL very loud. This has worked well for the past 11 years.

He does have a bathroom down there and we have a room that has water already there so are contemplating a small kitchen as that is where our entertaining will be. It is a walkout basement with a patio door and one window. The reason I'm upstairs is because of my knees, the whole idea was to put everything for me on one level but the "lonely" part didn't occur to us until we actually started using the house!!

My husband's "shack" as they call it in the ham radio world, is in the back of the detatched garage. When we first moved in here, we had five young kids so every little inch of space was needed, except for one tiny upstairs bedroom. So, he took our double garage (really long) and built a very nice insulated room at the back with a steel door and heat and ac. Then, I eventually started taking over the small extra bedroom upstairs as I started sewing more.
When MIL moved in with us 5 years ago, I lost my room. I then started taking over the really wide hallway in the basement just to store everything quilty in containers. As the kids started moving out, my mind started scheming. As soon as one of the two bedrooms was empty, I was in there, that night cleaning carpet and doing touchup painting. I was in there by nine the next morning-poor kid didn't think I loved him!!!
Since then, I moved into the double-room rec room and finally landed in the largest room in the basement. Since MIL can't do stairs, I have bought another quilting table for upstairs (so I can be with her when she is awake) and a plug in doorbell for the sewing room for those moments when I need to go downstairs for a few while she is awake.

I love hearing all these stories.

One thing leaps out at me and that is how creative we all are with our sewing areas. If you love your hobby enough you will find the space to do it. When my MIL comes and she loves to watch me sew I move out to the dining room which is the first room you see when you come to our house. Messy? Yes, but that is just the way it is going to be!!

I love my sewing room upstairs in one of the larger bedrooms. He sits in the famiily room and watche tv or in the livingroom on his computer when it is to cold to be in his garage. If we need one another we just holler and that seems to work. Doesn't bother either of us to be in different rooms. We spend most evenings together and after 50 years next June, i guess we are used to it. I always say "distance makes the heart grow fonder"

My room is upstairs and Keith's is in a back bedroom. We use an intercom from Radio Shack.
