    now I feel old....

Had my Singer 185J set up in the living room, workers were putting in a wire nearby. Young fellow says, "Oh, you have one of those old sewing machines." To me it doesn't look that old. I think it dates from 1958. I date from 1956.

Here is a picture of a similar machine (mine is not as pretty). No picture of me.

Looks nice to me and you should feel good that you have one dating back to that date and it still works.
Don 't feel bad I am sure he is probably used to seeing the computerized machines and cannot believe anyone
would have one of these. I have a Pfaff but not computerized and I do just fine awith it.
    Keep quilting.

Beautiful machine. I had a similar experience but I am from 1953. Kid said 'isn't that a sewing machine from the old black and white movies they show on late night tv?'. I have a 1917 Singer 66-1 and she works beautifully.

I try to tell myself that I'm vintage, not old, but not sure that helps.

We are only as old as we feel some days 10 and others 110 today is a 55 day. And as they say age is just a number to mark on legal documents. Doesn't mean squat to anyone but the nosey government.
when life gets you down go and talk with a little kid. They will help you work out even the worst problems with their simple logic.

I have that exact machine! It is now my back-up machine, but I will never get rid of it. My Mum bought it as a rent-to-own when she and my Dad were first married, and she gave it to me when she got a new machine, 20-odd years ago. Now she has given up sewing, and I have her second machine as my primary. I cherish both as crafting links across generations: I plan to teach my daughter to sew on the old Singer (so simple and uncomplicated) this summer...

A Facebook friend posted yesterday, "Don't grow older grudgingly; Some never get the privilege."

It gives me something to meditate on.

Well, when songs from the '80's are getting on to "oldies" stations, yeah, a '50's machine is old. But so what? As my dad used to say - it beats the alternative!
