Hancocks carries them as well as superior threads carries them for bigger spools too.

I used to make my own with swimsuit fabric. I never thought of using support hose. Great idea, you can see through it!

In one of my serger books they cut up old panty hose and used it. I have not yet tried it but this is on a DVD and it sure worked for them. You might want to give it a try.
