yes, he told me "NO!" and lived.

i stay with him in his apartment - rent/bill free (he's helping me get my credit back on track) so until i can pay 1/2 the bills - furniture decisions are made by him.

of course, we just had a LONG discussion about $$$ (again) because of my quilting/spending habits... (and the ordering of an embroidery machine)
