I have a Pfaff Creative 1471 that I bought new in 1986 and would not part with it for the world, a real workhorse. Also have a Brother sewing and embrodiery machine that intimidates me, bought it used so no lessons, haven't mastered it yet.

Did you inform him that eating is a luxury and he won't be getting that for a while?

I love my new Janome Horizon 7700. I use it for piecing and free motion quilting. I have also put it on my quilting frame for a couple of quilts and it's quite the performer!
I still use my Janome QC6260 for workhorse jobs (denim) and to take to classes.

Pfaff I purchased new in 1991, wish I had another just like it. Plus a Janome ,purchased about 1995,used mostly for blanket stitching.

I was thinking more along the lines of clean underwear being a luxury too.
