Thanks for all the wonderful ideas, ladies. You always come through. And thanks for including pictures and links.

oh my goodness! that is incredible! i have this pattern book, and have made a few of the characters to adorn my cross stitched quilt labels. they are really lovely, but i have nothing but admiration for your perseverance in making this. what an intense amount of work and love.

wonderful! thank you for sharing that!

also, i saw an enthusiastic yes to collecting you stitching and making it into a quilt. i see so much embroidery, needlepoint and cross stitch at goodwill and it always breaks my heart. cross stitch is one of my least favourite thread works, but i love how it turns out and i appreciate the hours and the labour. turning yours into a quilt is a great idea, i think!

I have a Christmas cross stitch quilt that I made from cross stitch interwoven rings that were made by a 93 year old woman, and I smile every X-mas when I take it out, I just love it.

I started embroidering in 1962 when I was 8 years old, I embroidered everything from towels to squares for quilts, pictures to be framed and Christmas stockings. Once in a while the red would bleed - but it would rinse out. All of the items were always hand washed and blocked. And I have embroidered more than my share of pillow cases that were washed in the washing machine without any problem. I have even made baby blankets with embroidered blocks that were washed on a fairly regular basis. So I doubt you will have any problems unless they are very old and the fabric is weak.
