I use my husband's grandmother's quilting frame. She came over in 1882, and the frame may be almost as old as that. It is 4 "sticks" (2 at 78" and 2 at 90") that were clamped together at the corners and the quilt back was thumb-tacked on. The batt and top were laid on that and then the quilt was tied.
When I inherited them, I used bolts to hold them together and stapled a strip of denim so I could pin the quilt back, batt and top altogether onto it. A neighbor said he could use it for a trampoline. The ties were always perfect. Later, my son made a new set of 96" long sticks so I could tie larger quilts. Then I learned to pin-baste so that I could FMQ. My husband has now made a set of 48" sticks so I can work on baby and lap quilts without taking over ALL of the living room. A friend had a set of 102" sticks that I could have had after she died, but I let them go. So sad. :-(

Maviskw, that is what we use at the "Kalico Kwikters" in Yorkville, Illinois. We are about 25 to 40 women every Wednesday from 8- 3. It is so much fun. We pin our quilts and have 4 going at all times. We have a coffe break with show and tell at 9:30 and lunch at noon. If your quilt is being done you and the other 3 ladies are in charge of lunch. Coffee break snacks are from volunteers. If you are ever near Please join us. We are upstairs at the Farmers Co-op. This group is about to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Even though I have EQ5, I still sometimes like to work with the graph paper as well. I can do it in front of the television, and go at my own pace. I also like the sewing of the binding. I like feeling of "almost finished".

*** I hand quilt on a Hinterberg floor frame that I bought on CL.
***
*** I do a lot of scissor cutting (I don't do well with a rotary cutter, but use it some times.)
***
*** I hate hand sewing the binding so I usually do a machine one but I love hexies by hand.
***
*** I hope one day to do a completely hand stitched quilt.
