old not working serger....
i have an old viking 560 ed serger...i bought it years ago, used. and years ago, it stopped operating well...refused to serger...it turns on, it runs...but when you try to serger, a gobbley gook occurs. in the last few years, i've had it to a couple of different sewing machine techs, and they have been unable to make it work.
I'm cleaning out my sewing room....and here's the thing...why keep it? why not just throw it in the trash? what would YOU do? in perusing ebay, it appers it would be more a hassle to box it and ship it than what it is worth <g>. I really want to chuck this one....

I would chuck it. Some things aren't even worth giving away, and I would say that a serger nobody could fix would fall into this category.
Note: It's a lot easier to be objective about someone else's stuff! I understand where you're coming from!

I would chuck it too, I had to do that once and was nice to get it off my mind and gave me space for something else. Or donate it to goodwill or something so someone could maybe fix it or use it for parts.

Yes, I was thinking about donating to Goodwill too. If you do that, though, put a piece of masking tape on it to indicate it doesn't work! There are sewing machine dealerships who scout Goodwills for non-working units. They salvage parts from them.

Get it out of your home. If you donate the recipient - Goodwill or whoever - can make the decision if it is repairable.
I know I couldn't just trash it. Esp down here where we are so close to Mexico. I've been surprised what can be repaired and work reliably down there. Those women need all the help they can get. some churches even send machines down to Mexico to help women earn money to help their families.

I had a serger that was just a mess to even try to use. When looking at a new one, I just casually asked if they would give me anything on trade and they gave me $300! So what I thought was a piece of junk turned out to be worth something more than I thought!
