I bought an old singer sewing machine today in a cabinet. The stitching on the machine is perfect however, the bobbin winder does not work.

I thought about getting a side-winder for that, but don't know if they are any good, if I can't repair it.

The S/N on the machine is AD27070208 which I believe is dated as 1930 according to the Singer Web site. Can you tell me what Model # it is. It is electrical and has a knee pedal not a treadle (aren't they foot operated by pushing a very ornate bar on the bottom of the cabinet)? Tells how little I know.

If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Also do you have any idea what other attachments if any originally came with the machine?

Why don't you join the vintagesingers yahoo group? They are a great bunch and will be very helpful in your quest for information and/or parts.

I have a Sidewinder and like it very much. If you decide to get one, wait until you can use a 50% off coupon at Joann's or until they're having a 50% off sale :).

    You have a Model 66.

What is the bobbin winder doing or not doing I should say. Its probably is an easy fix, most of the times these vintage machines only need a little oil and love!!

And if you want some good information about preserving and restoring your machine just hop on over to the Needlebar.org I am a member and I can tell you it is the best site hands down for vintage sewing machines!

I did join the vintagesingers yahoo group, Thank you MM.

The bobbin winder doesn't turn at all. You can hear the motor trying to turn it, but nothing happens. I am afraid I will burn out the motor.

The person I bought it from has well (over)oiled it so that is not the problem.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

I got the bobbin winder fixed on my machine, only cost me $2.00.

Now all I need is a light bulb. I have no idea what builb to get as there is none in the machine now.

Now I am going to start working on shining her up. She just runs so good.

The desk needs quite a bit of refurbishing, so that will take a while to do.

    She runs like a dream.

Isn't she beautiful! I don't have a close up of her.
