Today I saw a folding cutting mat by Olfa that folds out to 24x17. I'm thinking it would work good for our RV ? Reply with your experience, please.

Yes, but I believe when you wear it out, it can't be replace. Omnigrid has some good smaller sizes.

I noticed Bonnie Hunter posted one on her quiltville blog recently too. I sure would like to try one out before purchasing as I can't imagine being able to get a perfectly straight cut line across the ziggy/zaggy joins of the board.
There are two types of the folding mats.
I have the large Omnigrid cutting/pressing mat that folds with a handle. I use it for all classes and workshops. It's very nice. I had the Fiskars folding cutting mat that folded for space. It was discontinued long ago. The fold in that one seemed week and broke apart after a time of folding it. The new folding mats sold now may be better made.
I love my life!
You can make your own folding mat. Buy two mats the same size like 12" x 18", lay them side by side, marking side down, and put clear tape like packing tape down the seam. Then you can replace the tape when it gets worn out.
I like mine and have had it for awhile - compact & very useful for classes and travelling.
***Just be sure that if you use the pressing pad that it is cool before you fold it up against the cutting mat because the heat of the pressing pad will warp your cutting mat.

Sounds like there is some confusion here. The new olfa mat folds in half http://www.joann.com/olfa-folded-cut.../14427736.html -this is not the omnigrid mat.
i got one about two months ago for classes. I've tried it out and am very impressed. Since my current Olfa is 5 years old and still like new, I hope for the same on this one.
