Yip - generation gap. My daughter is the same ...we're opposite on the color charts. But then, my mother is also opposite of me. I have a SIL that is SOOOOO different than me, that when I buy her something, I find things that are UGLY in my mind. She ALWAYS loves the stuff!!!!

I am making one for my 22 year old granddaughter now as a graduation from college gift. I did ask her a while back what her favorite colors were and she said purple so that is the color that I am using. I think the kids have it too good now days that they don't always appreciate the same things we do.

I am sorry that happened. Granddaughters are hard. Just when you think you know them, what they like and what is on their mind they change the rules. I think surprise is not going to be an option. Maybe she would enjoy going with you to choose the pattern and fabric?

Don't take it too hard....they are just kids. What do they know?? She would probably be horrified if she knew!!

Well that's why I have an "extra" lap quilt sitting in my closet. In my mind I was making it for my niece, when she saw it and didnt like it. Luckily I hadnt given it to her already. From then on, I let them pick out their colors or style. If Im am going to all that trouble, I want it to be something they will cherish. Making a quilt is alot like buying a pair of jeans, it is really tough to do it for somebodyelse.

Think about it this way instead...now you will know she really does love it when she gets her black and red one and isnt just saying it to save face.

I doubt she would be horrified, she would probably be relieved that she set you straight before you gave it to her. Quilters aren't supposed to have feelings I'm beginning to think. We take so many hits, but we keep getting back up and moving forward because we love our craft and we are good at it and nothing or nobody will ever beat us down so we walk away from it!!! I might make my granddaughter sit out a round and wait for her quilt a little longer than normal........
