I think I'd go with blue but a shade darker than the border. I think red might pull your eye to the binding too much.

Thanks for all the replies Petthefabric ~ how do you add piping? There are so many things that I have already never done for this quilt, might as well add another one!

I'm sure I'll be back with more questions -

I'd try to explain but why reinvent the wheel. And a picture's worth a thousand words. The piping is added when the seams are put together. Susan K. Cleveland explains the application in her book Piping Hot Binding and has a video on YouTube.

I think the blue or the grey would be my choice. Red would pull eye from center and if you have one little wobble in it.... When it is quilted there will be so much action in the borders it will be wonderful.
