I a working on a machine quilted piece using the walking foot.
There are a lot of end threads that need burying. I got one of the self threading needles but found it not totally satisfactory.
I searched the web and discovered another type needle.
It is a "Spiral eye self thread needle. The packaging describes it as follows" "Just loop your thread around the top, pull into the opening on the side of the needlek and then up and into the eye" It works like a charm. Makes threading so much easier.
It is a bit pricy at $5.50 retail for the SE-1 size. It is available in three sizes with the SE-1 being the largest. But is worth it in the time it saves in just threading the needle and the thread doesn't come out of the needle as the self threading type did.

The inventor got so many hits to her website from this board that she joined! Here's amma's thread that generated all those hits. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-30679-1.htm

I looked for these locally from the first time I saw them advertised over a year ago, but never could find them. Instead I resorted to using a larger eyed needle. Just any type that I can put my hands on with a large eye makes it fast and easy to knot, tie and bury on the longarm. So, that's just what works for me :)

I sure wish someone would carry these locally. Maybe I can find some in Houston this year. I'm anxious to try them and haven't ever forgotten about them. I am happy to hear they work as well for you as they appeared they might :) They are pretty spendy!

I too tried the self - threading needle and it would pull out sometimes when I tried to pull the knot thru to bury it. I bought a pkg. of this type of needle at a quilt show this summer. It works slick, but was spendy ($5 something, I think).
