when you oversize your blocks to make it easier to square blocks, how much do extra do you add to the original block size? Thanks for your help.

You need to be very careful when doing this. It is too easy to lose points if you have to take off more than a little sliver of fabric.

Another example of why this is not a good idea:

9 Patch block
If you want it to come out at 9" finished, and you cut the squares larger than 3 1/2" the center block will always be larger than the outer blocks. There is no way to cut them all larger and have the cemter block be the correct size.

This will be the same issue with any multi piece block.

You can make a 1/2 sq triangle slightly larger and then trim, but as to other blocks, I would be very careful and think about it first :D:D:D

Have only been able to do it on the outside edges for blocks... Do admit to adding an extra 1/8 to most pieces don't much care for 1/4 seam allowance. JMO

1/8" if necessary- like if the pattern calls fro 3 7/8" i will cut 4"...just a sliver=don't want to (disrupt) the pattern.

I agree, could not make the center square larger and trim the outside blocks.

Thanks for all of your help. I hadn't really thought of the fact that it would affect the points. I appreciate your help. What would I do without this wonderful group (make lots of mistakes for sure.)
