Just went to Hancock of Paducah to order fabric. Has been a while and I notice that all the prices are now 1/2 yard increments. Are all the fabric places going to be doing this? What other online stores are doing this? It is like going to the grocery store and buying your favorite products just to find out the price is the same but the packaging is smaller.

A number of shops that I have come across are now selling by the 1/2yd... so you have to check carefully or get sticker shock when you go to your shopping cart to check out  :D:D:D

I've recently been to several that are going with 1/4 yd cuts. The first time I was so excited to see the prices until check out- boy was I shocked! I look close now :)

Maybe it has something to do with inventory, how they are charged for the fabric. I would hope it isn't just a marketing fool the customer trick.

It's because a half yard is the smallest unit they sell. It's easier to get the shopping cart software to work right when you order whole units instead of partial units. They're not trying to decieve you, it's says "half yard" in big red letters on every fabric.

They've always done half yards there since I started ordering from them. I *do* prefer stores that show their pricing by the yard though.

It must have been quite awhile since you ordered from HoP. They've been selling in half yard units for at least five or six years now, maybe longer. Personally, I like it because it means I can buy 4½ yards if that's what I want and not be forced to choose between 4 or 5 full yards.

It's like the deli. Everything is sold by 100 grams now. Sneaky.

I love Hancocks of Paducah. Their customer service is great, fabric quality is great, range of products is also great. I just wish I didn't have to order either in 1/2 yard or full yard. I always increase my yardage requirements, but when I need 3/8 of a yard, I want more than 1/2 and less than 1 yard cuts. With HoP, I had to go the full yard...ah well, it was for a commission and the extra is mine...so I was forced (my story and I'm holding to it) to add to the stash on a year I promised to decrease the stash!!
