Painters tape won't stick - why?
I have used the blue painters tape to mark 3 or 4 quilts now and I love it. It really saves time and keeps me in line.
I am now working on a quilt and the blue tape will not stick to the quilt top. Has anyone had this problem before?
The tape sticks to my gloves, my feet, to itself, but not to the quilt top... very disappointing. Last night I gave up and manually marked lines, but I don't want this to happen again. The fabric is 100% cotton - what gives?

So it is sticky enough so it's not a bad roll. Is there a lot of starch on the fabric from ironing? I have pinned along masking tape for quilting lines, after it losses it's stickiness. Maybe that will work.

There is some lime green colored tape you can get that is supposed to stick to more stuff but doesn't leave a residue. I don't know exactly where you buy it. I just found it in the garage. I used it to temporarily hem some pants and it worked great for that. lol

I've noticed that when I use a starch, the blue tape does not stick as well too especially if I'm using a long piece of it. So I put a pin in at each end and and in the middle area wherever I see it needs it.

thanks for your replies... I did starch this fabric and I probably did not starch the others. I started using startch because I thought that is what I was supposed to do to get good cuts... but if the tape won't work that puts the end to the starch. If I use the magic sizing with that effect the tape sticking? Is there anything that I can do now after I have starched to make the tape stick? Like if I wipe it down with a wet towel???
