I agree this would be a tumbling blocks pattern.
Wow that is spectacular. One man on snowshoes, a frozen snow covered lake and a day of exercise.
If you really want to reproduce the snow patterns as is, then use the tumbling blocks pattern with blue and white squiggly and solid fabrics for the center and then a fern-like blue and white batik for the outer block edges. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
A fabric stash is always missing that one fabric needed to finish the quilt on which you're working.

Wow! Amazing photos! I wonder how he keeps his lines straight.
The pictures are spectacular. I wonder how he does it? Perhaps he has a GPS???
