I was wondering if anyone here has done any of her patterns. If so, what seam allowance did you use? I want to make one of her patterns but she uses like .31 for her seam allowance.

The patterns I have done from her are paper pieced , or at least the one's I have done... So the seam allowance is what you trim to after you have sewn.
In areas where you are combining sections , you still are sewing on a line on the paper pattern, but trim the sections constistantly, prior to joining.
I have done several of her patterns... I do find her instructions.... less than clear/prescise. Her husband does the translations for the instuctions( or at least he used to).

What?? That's kind of bizarre....
That would be millimetres (mm) I think. Australian patterns are different they give the yardage in metric (1 metre or 50 cm etc etc) but they still have the pieces cut in inches and the seam allowance as 1/4 inch.
The biggest risk is the one not taken
she is not from the U.S. and uses metric measurments-
the patterns (if you are using one of her patterns they are paper piecing-and the papers are in the package---you sew on the line- you can (measure) the lines to see exactly what it is if you feel the need- i've made a couple of her patterns- but have not bothered to measure the lines i just sew on the lines i'm supposed to sew on....but it is very close to a 1/4" --might be scant, like i said i haven't measured it-but looking at it-it looks pretty (standard)

Not all of her patterns have the papers !! The older version instruct you to trace all of the patterns onto your paper. This was a HUGE issue for many, and they started to include papers in the later versions. BUt there are still some shops that have the old inventory of patterns and are still selling them. So if any one is looking for these ... do get the one with he papers included.Originally Posted by ckcowl
