The other day I went to Walmart. I go there often. I am talking at least a few times a week and every Sunday morning like clockwork.

As I went to the fabric section, thinking I can totally get 2 yards and no one will even notice - I realized that I could not pick anything becuase nothing really "spoke" to me. Could it be that I am finally starting to tell the difference between just fabric, and quality fabric? Oh my gosh - it is like I am growing up!!

I think you are learning to tell the difference between impulsively buying fabric JUST because it's there and buying fabric because you like the color or pattern, or - OMG you might actually have a plan for it. lol

That's great - keep your stash to what "speaks" to you and you won't have to purge that "silent" yardage later.

Once you get a taste of what wonderful fabric is out there, it is hard to go back to the ordinary, I'm afraid.

My sister and I went to three stores today. I bought at two of them, and one was only thread. I really wanted to get more fabric than what I actually did, as the tax money finally came in. But I know I can always go online. I know what I truly like, what speaks to me in a good loud yell....

I have found after many years of buying fabric every time I get into a fabric store, I can go in and just as often leave without anything. I find that things just don't jump off the shelf at me or (too often) I only see fabric I already have. lol

I assume I am have become a mature quilter. Or maybe it's something else...

I guess you can get what you can afford, weather it walmart or connective threads. dose not mean your growing up. just means you can afford nicer fabric. some of us cant afford any. Penny

Your post brought a smile to me. You probably are growing in your quilting progression. That is a happy thing. But it may have just been a day when nothing in particular spoke to you. I have days like that & it doesn't matter where I am shopping.

If I walk into a fabric store and walk out with nothing, hubby thinks I'm sick.
It's not that the quality isn't there, there's just nothing that strikes my fancy at the time.
I can walk back into the same store the next day and spend a ton of money. I think it's all in your mindset sometimes.

DH wishes I had done that today but I did restrain myelff b/c he was with me. I did want a yard of the last fabric I picked but he kept checking the bill and said "Enough's enough!" and so I spent less than what I wanted.
