Wow, interesting thread. I have the 10 degree ruler and hadn't heard of the extension so I went on her site and looked at samples from her 20th Anniversary book. I especially loved the Woven Baskets and Bargello patterns. More quilts in my future 😊.

Peggy, I loved your quilt. Did you applique the center onto the black background? Love the shape of the border and think it's cute about your conversation with Jan. Very deserving to get your fabric as, I agree, she teaches us so much here (as do you too).

Peckish is there a pattern for your quilt. What an inspiration!

Peckish, that quilt is mind-blowing! I have to ask, though, did you have to take sea-sick pills to keep going on it! It is beautiful and dizzying at the same time. Thanks for sharing this one-of-a-kind quilt!

Yes. And I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but I quilted a mariner's compass into the center. I was going to micro-stipple parts of it to enhance the design but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Yes. There's a free tutorial somewhere on the internet, I found it recently but didn't mark it. If you google "vortex quilt" you'll find it.

However. I used a pattern produced by Andi Perejda, it comes with a DVD and includes instructions for 2 different sizes of quilts. It's the center DVD pictured here: http://www.andiperejda.com/dvd.htm It's about $20 for the DVD and, IMO, completely worth it.

They have several books outlining details of making quilts using both templates.
