Would it be all right to piece a backing hoizontally using two WOF as wide as the top? TIA Tina

Yes. I would trim off the selvage, and I recommend 1/2" seam allowance, pressed open. This holds very well and makes it a snap to quilt through.

I piece mine horizontally and vertically without any problems :D:D:D

Thanks. I found some fabric on line at Fabric.com. My top is 61x79 and I thought 4 yards would be adequate.

I don't see why not . The only thing I have heard is to not have the seam in the middle, as the middle gets the most wear and tear. I don't know if that is still true or not

i pieced a back by putting a stip vertical and across --it looked ok i set both off center--if i ever work out how to upload a pic i will put it on---i was also advised to do 1/2 inch seams pressed open worked a treat sat flatter ok round of applause i got the photo on

At our quilt guild show and tell, some of the backs are so wonderful. Not only are they pieced, they are pieced with several different fabrics. They look wonderful.

I try not to have a seam in the middle of the quilt backing due to the stress area when quilt is folded. I learned somewhere to cut 1 piece in half & then use a full width section in the middle with the 1/2 widths seamed to either side.
