I am trying to figure out how to put my foursquares on point together. I have cut sashing the length of my finished block. Do I sew the blocks together top to bottom or do I start on the right side of the block and continue or what. I tried sashing some pieced blocks one time before and the whole top is gonna have to be completely ripped back apart because it looks like stairs. This is what I want to avoid with this new project. I would appreciate all help I can get. I abhor restructuring.
Sorry the pic is wonky :-D

I tend to sew by rows rather than columns.... So that means I sew the vertical sashings on first and sew all that row together. The next row would be the horizontal sashings and any cornerstones if used.

I then put two rows together at a time and build from there. I don't just sew 1 to 2 and then that to 3...I sew 1 to 2, 3 to 4 and 5 to 6...etc

That is the way I do also -- I make sure that my seams are pressed so they will nest as I sew the pieces together -- I also like to use cornerstones.

Are you using cornerstones? They are much more than just decoration, they help keep your quilt aligned. Doesn't matter if you sew the blocks together top to bottom, or left to right. When you join the strips with sashing and cornerstones, it will be straight.

What size seam allowance are you using?
