Default Need some help resizing a quilt pattern

I am starting a new quilt for my Grandson, 2 1/2 years old. The name of the quilt is Brown Bear, Brown Bear using Andover Brown Bear fabric. Here is the link to know what I am talking about. http://www.andoverfabrics.com/Quilts...own%20Bear.pdf
I am new to quilting and don't know how to adjust patterns. The quilt size is 64 1/2 X 64 1/2. I would like it large enough for a full size bed. I have the fabric that the directions call for, but will probably have to purchase more to make it larger. Was going to make it for him when he was a baby, but never got around to it. Is there anyone here that could help me out? I would appreciate it very much!
Thanks in advance.

A full size mattress top measures 54"x75".
With a drop on all sides of at least 8", you're looking at finished quilt of ~70"x91".

The quilt pattern is for 64" square.

This diagram shows if you make the quilt, per the instructions, you would need a 3" border on each side, and a 13.5" border on the top and bottom.

You can fill it with just fabrics, or other patch blocks (9patches, stars, more applique).
Your choice.

The bears will be on the mattress, so the best part will be visible on the top of the bed.

Great idea, MTS. Thanks for helping her out. That's what I love about this board.

Hi and thanks for responding. Let me see if I have it...if I follow the directions on the quilt, it won't be 64in square unless I add the 3 in boders on the sides and a 13.5 in border on the top? That to me would look funny? I am so new to quilting I am not sure what you mean.

No.

If you make the quilt as per the pattern directions (and it states it on the first page), the quilt will be 64" square.

You want one that will fit a full size bed.

In order to make THAT pattern fit a full size bed, you need to add the 3" (sides) and 13.5" (top/bottom) borders so it will be around 70" x 91" (the size you want).

The beige borders is depicting (poorly, I guess) the additional borders you would need to add.
The three colored borders mirror the three borders ALREADY on the pattern.

Now, not to confuse the issue, there are numerous other design options you could use to enlarge.
I just offered the quickest and easiest.

If I were you, I'd get started on the blocks, get a bit comfortable working with the fabric, and you can think about how you might want to enlarge it as you're working.

Is this a kit?

Instead of such a wide border on the top, wouldn't it be easier to just add another row or so, of blocks?

It doesn't have to be one wide border ( I gave many suggestions upthread).

The sketch is just illustrating the size needed.

I would simply add a couple more rows of blocks. The blocks look like they are 10" with all the borders. So you could make the quilt 5x7 blocks and you'd have a 50x70 center. Add the same borders they do in the pattern, and you get 64x84, which is pretty good for a twin size bed.

Or if you want more overhang, 6x8 blocks plus borders would be 74x94".

In either case, you just need to buy enough fabric for the extra blocks, plus some additional for the longer borders.

Hi
No, this is not a kit. I bought the fabric online after I found the pattern. So, I have extra fabric. I think I will take your advise and just start making the squares. See how much extra fabric I have, I may have enough to make extra blocks. If not, maybe make different blocks. Not sure. I may pm you when I get a few blocks finished. Would that be ok? I just might make 2 more rows. Not sure about the width. Maybe 1 or 2 extra?
Thanks again!
