Default Please help with formula for bag with gussets

I'm sure I saw a chart or formula on the web and equally sure I bookmarket it - but now it's gone!!

I want to make a quilted bag with gussets. I know how high and wide I'd like the bag and I know what size I want the gussets to be. What I can't figure out is what size fabric to start out with.

There must be some sort of chart or formula to figure this out. Can someone please pass it on to me?

Thanks!!

Just to clarify, are you actually talking about gussets or boxed corners?
A gusset is an inset piece of fabric, often used in garment construction, but could possibly be used in a bag. Most bags have boxed corners. If it's boxed corners, you can google 'boxed corner bag formula'. there are many hits, here's one:

Yes!!! Thank you so much. This is exactly what I was looking for. Boxed corners, not gussets. That explains why I could not find it. So happy!!

Gussets are used in making bags too, and extra step but easy to do. I wonder if there is more fabric required for gussets or less versus boxed corners?

Anyway, glad you got what you were looking for KenmoreGal2.

that is a useful link... I have been making tote bags out of toddler jeans with fun linings for a charity auction in March... this would have been helpful last Saturday when we started construction of the 15 totes.
