If I understand your question. I am just confused by calling them diamonds.
Setting triangles would be 15 3/8" squares cut twice on diagonal.
Corner triangles would be 8" squares cut on the diagonal.

Take a look at this:

http://quiltbug.com/Articles/on-point.htm

I found it very simple, informative, and it clearly explains the formula to use to figure out how much to add so the squares & triangle come out right. I bookmarked it & printed a copy out.

which means you need a square 15 3/8" that you cut diagonally (twice) to make 4 setting triangles to put your block on point....cut an x.

This might get you going. I saved it thinking I might set blocks on point, but I'm certain that's waaaay down the road for me.

Thank you so much. That's a great conversion chart. Just what I wanted now and for ALL the rest of the On-Point that I'll be doing in the future.

I am so laughing in my mind right now.
I bet people who do not quilt just shake their head and walk away when one of these conversations get started. It is an area I am not familar with so I know what you are talking about but I do not have a clue what it all means. I feel very special having a front row seat to such a superior conversation. I wonder if I feel like those small children when they get to sit with the grownups and listen to the grownups talk.
This post is just so neat. Thank you for letting me listen in. It was great.
