Make sure that your seam allowances are perfectly 1/4 inch thru out your block and quilt. Below is a site on this board with hints for accurate seam allowances.

Depending on what block you are working on, this site might help.

I didn't really understand how seam allowances worked to keep your points pointing until I saw this. I wanted each block to look perfect and didn't allow for what would happen when it was sewn together.

That is El Burns method and it is so easy and you get perfect HST.
You also need the ruler that goes with it. Quilt in a Days triangle square up ruler saves alot of cutting since you lay it on the stitch line and make one cut.
By the way, the ruler comes with all sizes to cut for. It amounts to adding 2 in for each size up (8in for 3 1/2 in HST)
Thanks for that website its a good one.

also use the 45 degree line on your ruler. if trimming hst's put the line on the seam and your points will not be cut off

Lisa,

Thank you so much for sharing that link. I will have to get one of the rulers in the tutorial.
