Default Poll: What would you do?

I was cutting the pieces for my son's dinosaur quilt today and was mortified to discover that I'd cut a stack of 7 1/2 x 2 1/2 rectangles instead of 8 1/2 x 2 1/2. The fabric came from my grandma's stash and is dated 1997, so it's not going to be easy to find more (though I did post a picture in the "in search of" forum just in case).

Assuming I can't find it though, what would you do? I am two rectangles short.

    a) Pick a different color for just those two pieces.
    b) Stitch the shorter rectangles together and trim to make the right size, then quilt in such a way that maybe no one will notice.
    c) Buy some new fabric and redo all the rectangles for that color.
    d) Some other super smart idea that will make all my problems go away.

I would pick a different fabric for those two and center them, or put them someplace that it looks like you planned it. That's what I do when I make mistakes!

If it was me, I would just try to match the color as close as you can since you are only 2 short. I really don't think it will be that noticeable. I have been known to add on to one piece before after I miss-cut a piece, but it was only one. I would hate to have to do that to all of them. But, others may have other suggestions for you. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I would piece them together. I have done it many times and you really have to look to see it. I think it would be more obvious changing color even if it was close.

I patch fabric pieces a lot especially if I run short of fabric for a block or border. It's a quilt.

Match the color as closely as you can; then add borders until you get to the size you want. I wouldn't do a thing to the rectangles except sew them like they were supposed to be at 8 1/2 X 2 1/2. When you get them put together and the borders added, no one will know except you!
