Is it possible to sharpen scissors too sharp??
So recently I took my Gingher 8" dressmaker shears to the Atlanta Quilt Show to have them sharpened. The company that sharpened them did something strange to them and now the points of the scissors don't come together like they should and one point is shorter than the other. They are also so sharp that I cut my hand on one of the blades when I was hemming some drapes for a friend.

It is almost impossible to find a good scissor sharpener. Not many know what they are doing and will ruin a pair of scissors. The scissors were probably taken apart and given a knife edge sharpness. One blade could have lost more metal then the other making the two blades not fit together. Another blade sharpener might be able to correct the fit. It's better to buy a new pair of scissors if you don't have a great scissor guy!

Does anyone have any info on this... I have Gingers I won't let anyone touch .. and I am extremely reluctant to just hand them over to just any body for sharpening... I would love to be able to send them "home" for the proper sharpening care.

Here's the link for getting Gingher scissors sharpened by Gingher.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Maybe now I won't be afraid to use them!

I dropped my Ginghers on a concrete floor several years ago. Needless to say, it sprung them! I mailed them to Gingher along with I think $6 for postage to get them back. They realigned them, sharpened them and sent them back to me--they were good as new and still are. I wouldn't trust anyone but the Gingher company to do anything with mine.
