Hi all. I am working on a zig zag pattern where u use half triangles. I know how to place two fabrics together and sew across the diagonal and i get 2 squares from each. Is it possible to place more than 2 squares of fabric together to get more than one? I hope i explained this right. lol Happy Holidays. Cheryl

If you are talking stacking them & sewing through more that two fabric squares at once, then no, I don't think so. Cause you do that, then cut that center line that stitched on both sides of, all the stacks on either side, are still going to be all sewn together. Is this what you meant? Hope so, if not, try again...

I think you are saying that you want to know how to make a grid so that you can make a bunch of HST. Is that it?

to know how large to create a grid, then you have to use the finished size of your HST + 7/8" ... after that, it is a simple matter of either cutting strips at that size and drawing diagonals, or setting squares of that size on a piece of paper, draw the center lines so that you know where to stitch your seam allowances and you are good to go. <wave>

There is a way of sewing around the outside of 2 squares of fabric and then cutting and X through the square to get 4 HST but I don't remember where I saw it or what it was called. Maybe someone else remembers.

You can chain piece them - that works well for me.

Try it with 2 five inch squares.
Put them right sides together ... stitch 1/4" seam allowance all around the perimeter ...
Cut across each diagonal. Results: four HSTs

The reason I say try it with two five inch squares is because I can't figure out the math to know what size the HST actually turn out. Maybe you can do it and come back and tell us what the formula/results are <wave>
