Default Appliqué with fusible question

I have a question for all the great minds out there. Have you ever used wonder under or similar fusible in making a raw edge appliqué on a an item to be used in the microwave? For instance a micro bowl holder that would be fancied up,with some raw edge appliqué. I don't really want to have to call the fire department or buy a new microwave.

Thanks in advance.

IMHO, fusible glues work by melting fabric to fabric. i would not use fusibles in microwave products

I would not use Wonder Under in an item that will be microwaved. WU is basically a heat activated glue, therefor when the item is heated, the glue will melt again, and your appliques would come loose. I don't even put items that have Wonder Under in the dryer, for the same reason. The appliques come at least partially off, if not completely. Even if you stitched down the edges, it would still be attached unevenly in the center, causing an unattractive bubbling effect.

It would probably scorch also, causing discoloration at the very least, if not a potential fire hazard.

I don't put any fabric in the microwave. I've heard of too many fires starting that way.

A safe alternative would be wash out glue or glue stick.
I have a microwave potato bag that I use but I soak the paper towels I use to wrap around the potatoes and spritz the bag.

Since the fusible washes away I would make sure to wash the finished project before using it.

I have made the bowl holders with no problems. You must use all cotton fabric, batting, and thread. Otherwise, it will catch on fire. I would skip the appliqué with fusible. You could do regular appliqué. You could also use fabric markers.

We sell hundreds of soup bowl potholders and have not had a single problem. We add a note and tell the person that they are for REHEATING NOT COOKING. We suggest 2 - 3 minutes only. We use all cotton (fabric, batting, thread) and with my family and friends, have used them for years. FYI - they are also great for holding the cold ice cream bowl when watching tv!.
