Good morning everyone. I have a question about praire point borders. I am making a quilt for my son and his wife. I am almost finished with the quilting. I want to put a praire point border on it. I have all the points made, sitting in a basket, just looking at me and laughing because I am not sure how to put them on the quilt. I thought I would baste them together to make a strip but then how do I attach them to the quilt. I usually use binding around the edges, machine sew it to the front and then hand sew the back of the binding. Any advice would be appreciated.

What I did is line 'em up like I wanted them, but flipped in the opposite direction, pinned carefully, sewed 'em by machine (slowly), flopped 'em back into position, then hand stitched the back in place. It was fairly easy, and effective, but a bit nerve-wracking since it was my first time doing it.

I made a prairie points border, and here is how I did it:

Lay the quilt out on the floor, top side up. You should have the top and backing trimmed to a 1/4 or 1/2 inch past the batting. Line up the prairie points in the order you want. (Mine were rainbow order around the quilt, so never mind this if yours are all the same color.) This allows you to move them so that they are equally spaced apart and reach the corners without being short or going past.

Pin the prairie points to eachother, and baste them with the machine at 1/4 inch. This will give you a chain of points for each side.

Pin the chain of Prairie Points between top and backing, turning the edges of the top and backing under. Sew through all layers close to the edge of top and backing and you are done!
