Prairie points?

I've never done prairie points before for a border, but i've seen instructions, and it looks kinda fun. What i'm wondering is this. Can prairie points be put on a wall hanging, or are they better used on other projects. I'm thinking with a wall hanging, the points on the top border would want to flop forward, is this prob true?

there's no reason you can't use prairie points for a wall hanging. whether or not they flop forward will depend on a number of factors:
how floppy is the fabric in the first place? if it's pretty floppy, innerfacing will help keep it stiff.
how big are the p-points in relation to the body of the quilt? if they'll poke out more than 1.5", i'd suggest making them large enough to fix with a 1/2" seam instead of the standard 1/4". make sure you topstitch both in or near the ditch, then again at least 1/4" from the edge.

Just a suggestion maybe you could only put them on three sides....or maybe spray starch will work??? other than that I don't know...guess it would depend on how determined you are...and who wins out the p point or you.. :D

Oooh, thank you patrice and cathie. It's for this months bom that i turned into a wall hanging. I've decided that if this whole block was a challenge, i might as well finish the borders off with a new challenge too. I think i'll use 3" squares to make the points, or maybe 2 1/2", will take a look and see. I've read that you join your prairie points, binding, and hanging sleeve all from the front in one seam, and then just flip it all over, so that's what i will try. What i read is you still do a binding, but it doesn't show on the front, it gets flipped to the back of the quilt, so i will try this. Thanks :)

I've never done them either, this will be a first. And i think a perfect project to try points on, because it's a small project. Going to just use the fabric scraps i saved from cutting the pieces for this quilt :) I think i will try it tonight

I tried prairie points on my grand daughters quilt. I was thinking if they didn't turn out the greatest she wouldn't care. Now my son and daughter want a quilt with prairie points too. They are fun to do and look cool.

I've seen prairie points on everything from pillow cases to wall hangings, crib size to king. I think that Patrice was right, a bit of interfacing, the stiffer the better and a bigger seam should help. I have a friend who puts them on a lot of her F******* projects. It's almost like a trademark.
