Good Lord, where are all these people shopping?? Maybe I misunderstand what LQS is I couldn't afford to quilt if I had to spend 9.00 a yard for fabric. I shop online now a lot (age and health prohibit going out much), also Hancock and Joann. Everything has to be on sale and I never pay more than $4-5 per yard.

Our LQS fabric is from 9.99 - 10.99 but she has 40 - 50 % off sales several times a year that is when I buy!

I generally take LQS (Local Quilt Shop) to be an independently owned specialty quilt shop as opposed to a chain store. And the fabrics they carry are usually higher quality designer brands like Moda, Hoffman, Timeless Treasures, etc. So you would expect to pay more, since there are differences in the thread count, printing & finishing processes, etc.

I think that was the intent of the original question, to find out the prices at the local 'little' shops, not the big chains.

it's about $8 to $10 where I live. I too, will shop for lower prices. The LQS here has a wide selection of quality prints and solids, it's the old home-town store- where everyone helps everyone else! I have reasoned it out, and at Walmart or any other online store that has lower prices, if I still purchase at $6 or less a yd. I will come out cheaper in the longrun. After any notions that I need, plus thread if I don't have it,batting, backing and I have just learned from you guys how to make my own binding.

Here in Australia the prices start at $12.00 per meter up to and including $25-30 per meter which is your 39 inches. I go where I can get specials or better quality for cheaper prices in nearby Ipswich, we have Spotlight stores which is similar to your Joann stores.

have 3 locals I go to in CT one everything is 8.99, second 10.99 and final 9.50....I always ck out clearance first....
I go to and old Mill Fabric shop in RI where it varies so I shop more when I'm up there.
Most of my shopping is at Joann's with coupons...never pay full price...But somedays you just want to support your local shops and they sometimes carry fabrics I can't find at Joann's i.e. Novelty Landscape for the Scene's I do.

I didn't know I 'had it so good'. I pay between $3 and $5 per yard and they often have good sales besides. One has to check the quality and brand, but it is almost always good fabric.
