I was doing some searching for batting ( I just got a frame for my Juki) and came across "green batting" made with recycled plastic bottles. Now, in my life I have made hanging fish out of plastic bottles, and have recycled them, just didn't know that they could make batting out of it. Ok, so here is my question....Has anyone used these? Are they comparable to a poly batting? I use 80/20 all the time but I don't want to buy something I wont ever use.. What do you think?

polar tech fleece (that is used for jackets/vests and socks among other things) is also made from the same bottles the batting is-
i like the dream green batt- it is nice to work with- needles well by machine and by hand
washes up nicely and seems to last well (first quilt i used it in is 6 years old now and has been washed and dried many many times- the kids take these quilts everywhere they go- in the car- used for building forts/ picnics- and to snuggle with- they are holding up nicely
it is like using fleece for a batt without dealing with the stretchiness of fleece.
and i like the idea that it is recycled-
the only down-side i know of is....its' green- and when used with a quilt that has a lot of white- there is a greenish tint to it---not always a bad thing-
i've stuck to using it in darker fabric quilts.

Hi, I used the green batting on a wall hanging and had no problems with it. In fact I liked it but haven't washed what I made so can't answer that part.

Wow, I have used Polar-Tec many years making blankets for people, and didn't know that it was made from pop bottles. The fleece never pills, so that may be it. I will try it. I like the idea of recycling the plastic pop bottles, just didn't know how it quilted. Thanks for your response

It is nice stuff, just wish it was not green... I make lots of quilts with white or natural colored backgrounds and it( the green color) does show .

I love it! Used it in a couple of wallhanging and it holds up really nicely after washing. I still prefer cotton for lap quilts though as I find they "drape" better, but love the green batting.

I won a package of Green batting at our Guild but haven't used it yet....too busy working on some UFOs.

However, the new carpet in our living room is made completely from recycled plastic bottles and is sooooo soft and cushy!

I have it in one bed quilt. It does lay nicely and it does wash and dry well. I've seen 'rumors' that people think it will emit a horrible burnt plastic smell when put in the dryer, and they avoid using it. Personally, I have never encountered that issue.

I use Dream Green all the time for my QFK quilts. I really like it.

I love Dream Green batting. I like that it is recycled, easy to machine quilt & drapes well. The only downside is the green shows through white fabric on the top, so I only use it with darker quilt fabrics.
