I enjoyed watching the Missouri Star tute using the tube method of making triangles and now have a project that I'm thinking of using that but have a concern. When using that method to make 1/2 square triangles, it would put bias on the outside edge and the straight of grain is in the seam already stitched. Have any of you used that method and do those bias edges give you any trouble when putting them together with another bias edge? I've always done the method of drawing a line diagonally across the square and stitching 1/4" either side, then cutting it apart. Any discussion on this?

I used that method and the bias can be a little tricky. But it also worked to my advantage when I needed to ease a couple of seams. Starch would probably help.

Starch is the only way I can handle them without streching the edges.
There's a new thread called Pinwheel Project that I joined. Check it out. Sounds like fun and a good motivator.

I would saturate the fabric with starch, let it dry and then press. This will make the fabric stiff enough that the bias shouldn't be a problem. Nor will the starch flake off  or stick to your sole plate :D:D:D

Just come over and jump right in! No swapping, just lots of encouragement to keep plugging along.
