1/4" foot question

I have a Janome 6600 with the accufeed system and have been using the 1/4" foot. My question is ...does anyone else have trouble seeing the black marker when using dark fabrics? I am tired of having to get up close and wondered if maybe I could put a bright colored fingernail polish on the marker to make it easier to see? Is it just me? Any other ideas?

I don't use a 1/4" foot with my machine, but I know what you mean. I have a ruler that has black markings on it and they can be difficult to see when using black fabric...which I use quite a bit of.

If this were me, I wouldn't use the nail polish. I'm a big enough of a klutz that I'd get it everywhere. I personally would try one of those White-Out pens to make the mark.

It's worth a try ... won't do any harm.

Though you may want to consider ... will you be creating the same problem when you work with fabric of the nailpolish colour?

Maybe you just need a brighter light focused on that area. I use a 1/4" foot that has a black spring at the 1/4" edge but I just line up the fabric with the spring. I haven't seen the Janome foot that you're talking about so maybe my idea a better lighting isn't applicable....

I put White Out on mine. Makes it a lot easier to see the black piece

I think I'd probably use a few thicknesses of post-it notes vs. anything permanent. Particular nail polish. I think you'd get a more accurate line with the paper and/or tape. I've used painters tape for larger/odd measurements for home dec stuff. Maybe that would work for you???

I was thinking nail polish, as it can easily be removed with acetone or change to a different color....but white out would work too.....hmmm.....maybe a coat of clear first to ensure that it comes off

that's what I do too. The white out can be scraped off with your fingernail much easier than nail polish. No need to put clear nail polish on first - the white out comes off the metal just fine. I have the same machine and the same accufeed 1/4" foot.

Note: I try to put a thin stripe across the length of the foot - about center line - so there is black above and below. This seems to help see it much better.
