6 1/2 inch blocks would finish at 12 inches. You would need 6 3/4 to finish at 12 1/2

no it should hit 12 1/2 unless she is doing 1/2" seams.
|
Hmmm...I use 1/4" seams so normally you would cut 6 1/2 inches to end up with a 12 1/2" block...why 6 3/4?
Maybe I didn't clarify this...when I am done making it, I want it to be 12 1/2" unfinished...put together in a quilt it would be 12"... Thanks.. |
She said 12.5 inch finished. The way I understand "finished" does not including the 0.25 inch seam allowance around the perimeter of the Block. With this definition, 6.75 will finish 12.5.

6.75 + 6.75 = 13.5 - .5(both .25 seam allowances) = 13 which would be wrong
6.5 + 6.5 = 13 - .5 = 12.5 which would be the correct measurements needed |
I am not trying to fight, just to clarify. With this block you join two 6.75in blocks and you get 6.5 x 13 rectangle, join two of those you get 13 in unfinished square or 12.5 inch finished block.
