1930 Chicago World's Fair Quilt Contest
 

I have inherited my Grandmother's quilt which was entered in the 1933 Sears & Roebuck Chicago World's Fair Quilt Contest.

Do you fellow quilters know of any quilts entered in that contest. I am trying to authenticate the quilt and the tag on the bottom of the quilt is not the one on some of the quilts. The tag was sewn onto the bottom of the quilt and looks like it might have had the name and address of the quilter on it. Part of the tag has been cut off.

I will not rest until I prove this quilt was an entry and is authenticated. There are two living members of my family that remember this quilt and can attest it was one of the entries. If you know of anyone who had an ancestor who entered a quilt, please let me know.

I can't help you with this, but, will watch this thread with interest. Could you post a picture of the quilt? Just interested to see the quilt. Good Luck.

Have you tried contacting anyone in Paducah, or at International Quilt Festival in Texas, or History Dectives? There might be someone in those places would can help. I would think in some archive, there are photos of the entries.

What about contacting the Chicago Historical Society? I would imagine that you would be able to find out all you need from them....they have much info on the fair.

I hadn't realized that there were over 24,000 quilts entered, which makes it the largest quilt contest in history. Only 30 quilts were in the final group actually sent to the fair. I just noticed that the above information was provided last time you posted about this quilt. Did you get any response from contacting the people mentioned in the essay, who are looking for more information about quilts in the contest?
