I've been searching & searching for a pattern that I can use 2 jelly rolls in & not need to add any other fabric. Do you think this is possible? I purchased 2 Bali Pops while on holiday & I don't want to make another DP9 nor a rail fence type pattern, Thanks for any helpful suggestions!

Lots of them! Here's a few that I did with one. Just double it to make it a bigger quilt!

I like the summer in the park pattern. I did it with jelly rolls. There is a tutorial from Missouri Star. You should be able to search for it and find the tutorial.

I love those that folks have posted pics of. The one with the 4 patch framed is really pretty and would be easy too.
|
Sorry....I see now that Eddie posted all of those. BEAUTIFUL! Love the color selections.
|
I really like this quilt posted a while back. It used 2 1/2 in. strips from an exchange? The poster was looking for the pattern. I am going to attempt it with my 60º ruler and do the hexagons that way. The title of the post is "How is this pieced or is there a pattern?" It was posted by mbake. Use the search function and see if it would suit your jelly rolls.

Summer in the Park. :) A little under two jelly rolls made a generous and beautiful twin-sized quilt with no need for a border.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5WgTyqB8Pc Here's the one I did! My long-armer happens to be standing next to the best picture of it. Heee. |
How about a Hexagon Quilt? Here are links to instructions. One strip will make one block. Since you use two strips in a block, then the two strips make two blocks. With two jelly rolls of approximately 80 strips, you will have 80 blocks.
Instructions for making the Hexagon Block: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSM0bcJyYLo http://blog.heirloomcreations.net/?p=2033 http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2010/06...finishing.html You don't have to use the "Ruler of the Month" but you do need a 60 degree ruler. |

Jenny has posted a new jelly roll quilt block technique this week in the Blog. Its pretty exciting.I'm planning to try it. |
Our area shop hop two weeks past, the shops each chose a pattern for use with the strips, and had their sample to show. We also were given a small bundle of strips at each shop, the total yardage is three yards. So, there are patterns for jelly roll use, I am having a hard time choosing which to use. piecefully, the old one

Eddie, I love your quilts!!! I've been wanting to do a Christmas log cabin but after seeing your first quilt I'm rethinking my choice of pattern. However, I do have enough Christmas fabric for more than one quilt, I'm sure.

I should add that I cannot bring up videos on my computer because we live in the country and don't have that good of service. Bet I'm not alone. I was hoping for a printed tutorial, with pictures, perhaps.
|
what is the name of the first quilt you posted I love it, also do you remember the name of the fabric you used
|
WOW, thanks for all the suggestions! Will check later in the day when I have more time.

The first one is 8" finished blocks, so for it you cut two rectangles that are 8.5" long and two that are 4.5" long. These will be the outer "box" of the block. So you cut those from all 40 strips and then use the remainder fabric to just make 4-patch blocks. Then you sew the 4.5" rectangles to each side of the 4-patch, and the 8.5" rectangles to the remaining sides of the 4-patch. That gives you the 8.5" blocks that you then lay out in a 5 x 8 grid and sew all together. Easy! The second one is a french braid where you cut the strips up into rectangles (the length depends on how wide you want the braid to be). You then just but one end up against the side of another, sew it together, and repeat, making a braid. After that, trim the edges to make it a column, and then join the columns together. It looks best to have darks on one side of the column, and lights on the other side of the column. The last one is a from a pattern that went around here on the board. Just sew all the strips end to end. Then cut it in half and sew those two looooong strips together. Cut that in half and repeat until it makes the rectangular top. Again, easy! |
