Wow!! What a great community here, I am a member of about 25 boards online for every hobby I am interested in, but I never really thought to look for quilting boards until today!! I cannot WAIT to look at all the posts here and hopefully get involved. I have been quilting on and off for 10 years though I only have about 6 completed projects to show for it!! :)

My newest project though is a 365 Day Quilt project, you basically journal on one block a day for 365 days, then sew it all up into a quilt. I am blogging about my journey here: http://scrapendipitydesigns.blogspot.com/ if anyone wants to see my take on this project.

Has anyone tried this crazy project? Or does anyone want to? I think it makes it easier to stay committed to this type of thing if you have others with you pushing you along!

Thanks for the great community here!!

Cheers!
Rachel

25 boards?!?!? If they are as great as this one, I don't know when you have time to sleep. This place is addicting!

Hope you enjoy it here.

athenagwis 02-03-2010 04:36 AM

Hehe, well I'm certainly not active on them all :) And this looks like a pretty hopping place, so hopefully I can keep up!! :) :)

Cheers!

Hey, I think I like the 365 block journal. How big are the blocks? With 365 I can't imagine their being TOO big? But they need to be big enough to write on legibly.

LovingIzabella 02-03-2010 05:13 AM

Welcome to the board Rachel-you will love it here.
How big are your blocks? This is such an awesome idea-I may just have to try it!

Welcome, glad you joined us. This is the best place for sure. Good luck with your 365 Day quilt project.

athenagwis 02-03-2010 05:41 AM

I am going to put up the details of my pattern on my blog today, but I have my journaling squares finishing at 4.5 inches and I will probably have 1/2 inch black sashing to make it look kind of like a window. The person I originally got this idea from (she did it in 2007) had rectangles that were 3.5 inches wide I believe. I wanted to make a King size quilt though, so I made mine bigger. I have some tips on the actual writing on the blocks part up on my blog and I also have a flickr group set up (linked from my blog) so people crazy enough to try this project can share tips, ideas, and encouragement. :)

Cheers!

Rachel,
Thanks so much for this. I have started to cut squares for it.
I am not a great blogger by any sense of the word(I just started a blog not too long ago and that is as far as it got) Perhaps this will get my blogging up too lol
Thank you again!

Yay I am so excited!! If you use flickr, you could share your pics in our group there. It's a tad bit easier to use then a blog :) Not as big a commitment!! LOL I should know I currently have 3!

Can't wait to see your fabric choices!

Rachel

I put a new post up on my blog with my journaling for the first week of this project (see siggy for link to blog). Anyone else giving this a try?

Cheers!

Rachel, I am enjoying watching your progress, but will have to put this idea on the back burner for myself. I am currently working on an anniversary quilt (with photos) for my parent's 66th, and finishing a quilt for my DD's choir trips.

I really like your choices for the sky. The batiks are a great choice, for all the motion in them. It will keep the quilt from appearing 'flat'.

LovingIzabella 02-08-2010 07:49 AM

Rachel,
I have started this project as of Friday. I will post pictures of the blocks I have so far. Thank you for such an inspiring project!

Yay!! I cannot wait to see it! I am glad to have inspired you to do this, make sure you check in every so often, as we will need encouragement to make it all the way!! :)

Yesterday's block had the date, the superbowl number, who was playing and I had everyone at the party sign the block. There are just so many fun ideas for this project!

As for the number of boards I am a part of, 3/4 of them I rarely visit, and the other 1/4 I visit in spurts. I am soaking up all this great info here now so I am very active, but then I'll make my rounds to other boards in a few months and rotate back here. :) :) I love being a part of so many communities!! Plus they are all for completely different topics ... scrapbooking, budgeting, computer stuff, web design, sewing, grocery game, Halloween, writing, reenacting, the Kindle, and I even own a board for the Barnes & Noble nook. Whew now I'm tired!! LOL ..... I don't sleep really. :)

Cheers!

April-- Were you able to get pictures of the quilt posted? I am so excited to see what fabrics you chose!!

Either those are very tiny blocks or you are going to have one monsterously large quilt. One a day? You are seriously ambitious. I have days I just want to quilt 24 hours and others I can do three or four where I am uninspired. Good for you and please share your pics when your done.

The blocks will either be 4.5 or 5 (if I do sashing) when I am finished. This will make a King size with the 5 inch blocks or a bit smaller with the 4.5 ones. So, yes, a huge quilt!! :) It's really not that much work each day, I just write a small story from the day on a square of fabric. The work will be actually putting the whole thing together at the end!! :)

Cheers!

I just updated my blog with some additional journaling I have done (link in siggy). I am not caught up all the way on writing my blocks, but I am caught up on keeping my journaling in a notebook. Has anyone else started this project? I'd love to hear how it's going!

25 boards? Gee whiz, when do you get anything done? You must be on the 'puter all the time.

Have fun with your 365 day quilt. Sounds interesting.

What a lovely idea. It would end up as a UFO for me so I am not ready to start yet. Thanks for sharing.
