45 Degree ruler

A friend of mine gave me a 45 degree triangle ruler. What do I do with it? Is there a pattern that uses it?

Kaleidoscope quilts.

I use mine to make half sq. triangles. works great. However when i first got it I too did not know what to use it for. Then a friend showed me.

Can you use it to do the ends on binding joins? Is it the right angle for French/Friendship Braid pattern? I think it would be handy to cut striped fabrics for Card Trick or similar.

Agree on both kaleidoscope and half square triangles.

It is a 45 degree diamond. It has cut lines for 1 1/2" to 4 1/2". Here is one that looks a lot like it.

Now you can finally start the Lone Star quilt you've always wanted to make!! ;-)

For starters:
http://quilting.about.com/od/rotaryc...g_shapes_6.htm
Except instead of the long ruler, you'd use your template to move along the strip.

You line up the marking on the diamond along the bottom of the strip - you use the measurement line that is the same as the cut width of the strip, cut the angle, and move on.
Try it with some scrap fabric (or paper) first.

It has many possibilities.
Enjoy!

Here's a better visual for cutting and template placement from Jan Krentz's book (different ruler but same concept):

Her diamond books are very good:

I made one of the Jan Krentz type diamond quilts and used a 45 degree ruler. It was fun and easy to make.
