I am so excited, actually paid 45.00! Looks like she was hardly used, book and stuff like new. I have only seen pics before, never held one, so little, like a cute toy.Am going to sit down and read instructions and then see if she runs.
Case is a little musty, with some dead bugs in the bottom, will just vacuum and dust out for now.
Thanks to everyone who had wished me luck over the weekend. I worked Sat and Sun, till MN last night, but got up and going today, was so afraid it would be gone. But the little case was just sitting there, waiting for me. thanks again

I am so excited for you!!! I know it was a nail biter weekend for you but it paid off. Now go give son a huge hug for that pic he took of it. LOL, I think it's great that for some reason he took that pic of that particular machine. You will have fun sewing on it too, mine runs like a dream. Thanks for sharing your good fortune with us.

Wonderful!! :) Congrats :)

Nana2Sew 08-16-2010 10:20 AM

What a find.....it looks brand new. You will love to sew with it. I have the black 221. I read, to put a bar of safeguard soap in the case to help with the musty smell.
To help protect the bed that folds up, I made a slip on cover for it.
Enjoy.....

Candace 08-16-2010 10:24 AM

finch 08-16-2010 10:25 AM

I have one of these machines and it is the rare 221J beige model. It has a shorter bed base,no decals and no face plate. They are very hard to find and rather expensive when you do find one.You have hit the jack pot big time!!! They do make a white one also that has a green case, but yours is not the white one.Yours is the very rare one.I am so happy for you!!!!!!!!!

tcnmom 08-16-2010 10:33 AM

What a find! You were meant to have it when it was still waiting for you.

What a beauty! Lucky you.

bucky383 08-16-2010 10:57 AM

Thanks everyone. The place where my son found this machine does architectural salvage and demo, He went there to find door hardware, he has an old fixer-upper house. so this little machine may have been sitting in a house that was being torn down. So glad they saved it. The guy there said he has 10 containers of salvage to go through in the next few weeks, I gave him my number and told him to call if he finds any other sewing machines. And you can bet my son will never pass up another Featherweight!

Grama Lehr 08-16-2010 11:50 AM

LUCKY GIRL!!!

Born2Sew 08-16-2010 11:59 AM

It is so difficult for me to imagine someone having a sewing machine and not using it. Your fw appears to be in pristine condition as though it was seldom used. What a find!

redpurselady 08-16-2010 12:02 PM

How wonderful - just goes to show she was meant to be yours. Enjoy your little pretty!

jrhboxers 08-16-2010 12:04 PM

What a deal. I was wondering if you were going to find it this morning or not. Keep that boy around - he has a good eye.

One thing - make sure that you read the manual and oil/grease all of the points listed in the book. It does look brand new but it has been sitting for years so it is probably dry. You don't want to ruin your beautiful baby. My husband found a Featherweight in the "Free to Good Home" section of our waste/recycle facility. He saw it and recognized the case. He figured it was just the case, but thought I would want it anyway. Well, it was a total, complete machine including the buttonhole attachment. It was really dry when I looked her over so I took her to my sewing machine guy. I usually take care of my grandma's Featherweight myself, but decided to invest the $$ to have it taken apart, cleaned and greased/oiled professionally. It was definietely worth the money.

Enjoy her - she will bring you numerous hours of sewing enjoyment. I have never had any machine that has run as well, as quiet, as smooth or makes as pretty of a stitch as my grandma's Featherweight.

cherylynne 08-16-2010 12:04 PM

quilterguy27 08-16-2010 01:01 PM

That is s amazing!! You realize you stole it for $45. Now, if I could find one like that. WOW!!! I just gave $100 for a black one and that's all I got was the machine and a broken case and thought that was a real deal. But you, you really won the lottery with that gem. Take good care of her!

DebbyT 08-16-2010 01:13 PM

I feel your excitement. Looks new, like you pulled it out of the box for the first time.

What a find! She's beautiful and what a steal! What a wonderful son you have! What are you going to do to thank him? Maybe a reallllly nice quilt made on your Featherweight?

Luv Quilts and Cats 08-16-2010 02:26 PM

So glad you got her! You are going to have fun!

Leota 08-16-2010 02:38 PM

Have you named her yet? I would call her "White Rose" because it looks like embossed roses in the case lining.

I have a 1935 black featherweight that I received for Christmas when I was 11. I'm still using that little jewel

Stitchnripper 08-16-2010 02:45 PM

I am so happy for you!!!!!

Prism99 08-16-2010 02:50 PM

Thank goodness you got it!

I got rid of the musty smell in the box by placing a charcoal Odor Eaters insole in there (available in pharmacies with the other foot products) and closing it up for awhile. In fact, I keep the insole inside the case with the machine now permanently -- clean and even acts as a cushion for the machine.
