I am 68 years old, I was wondering how many quilters started in their 60 years plus.
I was in my early 30's, am now 50!!
Way to go starting at any time. You will have so much fun! |
Count me in at 60!
I started a year ago last January, I was 59 years, 10 months. Is that close enough to 60 for you?
Not 60 yet but sometimes i feel like i'm 80
After a lifetime of being a tomboy and wanting nothing to do with anything I considered domestic, I took up quilting about 5 years ago - I was about 58, which if you round up you come up with 60.
Oh and I am still amazing my family who say "I can't believe you like this" Nancy |
Made one quilt in my 30s, then a few easy baby quilts, but didn't really start quilting until I retired at 55.
Started a quilt about 35 years ago by hand and did a little and put in hat box and it is still the hat box but then about 8 years ago at age of 62 I started quilting for real have sewed all by life
I started a year ago and I'm now 62 and having fun.
Started 4 years ago in my 68th year
I am 61 and just finished my first quilt. Now I am totally hooked.
I will be 66 in a few days and I started about 3 years ago.
So glad I found quilting. |
I just started on and off 2 yrs. ago...I will be 62 yrs young in Dec....Naomi
Have sewed forever. Started my first quilt in 1999 at the age of 50. Like the other person said...mine is still in a bag stored in a huge box of fabric.
I will be 62 in October and just started back to regular sewing after 10 years and have my first biscuit/rag quilt almost finished with the sewing. Next step is clipping all of those seams. I have a lot of other craft hobbies plus a small candle business that I love doing too. But there is something so rewarding in finishing any sewing project and saying WOW I made this. |

Have been sewing since before junior high school and in Home Ec in high school. Made most of my own clothes on a tredle machine. Made my wedding dress in sr yr at college and made lots of clothes for family until the 80's when I started traveling on my job. Also have done all kinds of crafts. Didn't get started on quilting until recently at age 70 and, yes, I still travel for my work. Have several quilts & bedspreads my Mom made quilting every stitch by hand. I appreciate them a whole lot more now that I know all that is involved. She didn't start quilting until after I had married and left home so never saw her working on them.

I started quilting 3 years ago when I retired from my job.
I am 68 now. I mostly quilt in the fall/winter/spring. I did sew when my 3 daughters were young and especially when they took dance classes, I made their costumes. |
I am 53 and only started quilting a few years ago.
I'm 71 yrs old. I've been quilting for 8 or 10 years. Retired 3 years ago, so now I can quilt anytime I want, which is a about every day. Just finished a 9 patch top today. I have my grandmother's Singer she bought in 1920, the year my mother was born. I love to sew on it, brings back so many memories. I also have my "new" Singer, a Touch and Sew. Quilting is great and so are all of you good folks. Gary

I am 60 now, but when I started I was 59. Close enough I guess!
Now let me think.... I was born in August of 1943... and I have a birthday coming up soon... so I must be 68 years old this year!
I started learning to paper piece first.. a couple of years ago.. Learning to make small doll size quilts has become my main hobby now... they go so well with my old dolls... |
I made my first quilt at age 60. Made 4 quilts and then life got hectic and I quit until last fall. I've made about 8 or nine quilts since then. I'm 66 now.
Started on my own last year and I am 61 now. Had done some previous easy quilting with mother/sister in law when I was in my 30's.
I am 62 and I swear before the end of this year I will have completed my first quilt. I have so many other projects to finish first! Then I can get started.
Have sewn since I was around 10. Started doing a lot of quilting in my 40's. Then didn't do as much for a while, now over the last few years back at it again, just turned 60, sometimes feel like 100
I was 64 when I made my first quilt and I am still quilting 12 yrs later. Love it. I quilt all my own quilts and some for others now and than.

I have sewed all my life but didn't start quilting until I retired in 2005. I was 62 then....
At 62 I made my first two quilts for twin grandsons, rather basic ones - but at 65 I joined a group of women who quilt at the local library and have not put down a piece of fabric since!
Did alot of sewing in my early years, helped my grandmother quilt, but made my first one by myself 2 yrs ago, I'm now 65, so yes I see there is alot of us late bloomers..LOL

I started at 65 when I retired, but had watched my mother and grandmother quilt when I was a child.
I started when I was 60, after I retired. Never had the time before. Quilting was one of my goalds in life. Of course, my friends were quilters and had a winter group once a week class. Lucky me. Barb

Let's see now..I am 77....started when I was just about 50......
but actually really got into the joy of being able to go and buy my fabric, and have all the time that I needed to make something of this material when I was in my 60s...... I have been at it since the beginning (1983) but the last 15+years have the the more pleasant......empty nest and retired.. Could one ask for more? |
I started in my 60's after I retired but I've always sewn.
mom is 80 and she started at 70! She's still making gorgeous quilts! In fact, she just won the first quilting board contest! I started at 50!

Took home ec in high school; for several years I made a few items of clothes and some large block quilts.
About 11 yrs ago I took some classes and made my first pieced quilt. Age 46. Then decided to go to college and get my degree in Web Programming; I've been working for a childrens hospital since I graduated; with top honors I might add. I'm proud of that; especially for some one w/a GED and alot of years in between high school and college. 1 1/2 yrs ago I started taking more quilting classes and haven't stopped since. Not quite 60 yet but like most even though I fight hard not too (degenative back disase); some days I feel twice as old. I can't see me ever stopping quilting this time; I'm hooked for good. My goal now is to make all of my 5 kids, 9 grandkids and 1 great grandkid (that's it for now) a quilt. Some of the kids and grandkids will get thier first this year for Christmas. |
Started after I retired at 62. Two yrs. later, I began a lifelong dream---to learn to quilt. That was 20+ yrs. ago and am still hard at it. It makes my day. Marge L.
