'80's Montgomery Ward machine threading question
 

Hi Guys, I have an acquaintance who owns a 1980's MW machine. I don't know yet what model but she is having a problem with it. It could be that it is threaded wrong but I will have a hard time checking that since she does not have a manual. So my question is can anyone tell me how these machines are typically threaded and how the needle is placed (is there a flat side and which way does it face; does the needle thread from front to back, right to left, or left to right?) Have not seen the machine yet so all of this may be obvious but thought I would ask first anyway. Thanks for any help.

Get a mirror or turn the machine upside down and look at where the needle goes. You will see how the needle fits into the shaft. looks like this Cl or l) I hope this helps.

Here are threading instructions for my Montgomery Ward machine. I don't know if its the same model you have but it may help.

Most of the vintage machines thread in a very similar manner to present-day machines.

Also, try Googling something like "Montgomery Wards sewing machine threading diagram" or "threading diagrams vintage sewing machines" or even the exact model number of the machine she has. I have found threading diagrams online that way for vintage machines.

Thanks Bernie! I have printed these pages out and will take them with me when I go to see the machine. I figured it would be fairly simple/obvious but one just never knows. These pages will be my backup. Think I had better take some machine oil too because I don't think she has used the machine in several years. Don't know what's problem she is having so we will see. Googling is usually my first idea Prism99 but thought I would ask the QB first because everyone is so informative and sharing.
