Hi, just wondering if these two things perform basically the same
function. I don't think you can FMQ with an even feed foot though. thanks!

Even feed of any type is not used for FMQ. The feed dogs for FMQ are down and with the Accufeed/even feed/walking foot the feed dogs are up. Accufeed/even feed/walking foot are all the same thing, just different names. Accufeed is a trademark name for Janome's walking foot, even feed. It is a built in system where most of the other brands it is a separate foot that you attach when you want to use it.

Even feed is also built in to Pfaff machines, known there as IDT.

even feed and walking foot do the same thing- one is built in -the other is a foot you attach.
free motion quilting is done with a darning foot (some call it a hopping foot-) with the feed dogs down- evenfeed/walking foot works with the feed dogs to do straight lines-keep the fabric even
the darning foot allows you to freely move the fabric in any direction

Thank you all for the info. about the accufeed vs. the even feed foot. For some reaon I thought you could FMQ with the accufeed.
