I see acronyms on this board all the time and don't know what they mean. Sometimes I can figure them out, but not always. Is there a legend somewhere that I can access or is this a secret code that no one has shared with me?

You can figure most of them out by the design such as OBW is a one block wonder. LQS is local quilt shop. DD is darling daughter and of course DH is darling husband. But are some that still evade me.

I am so glad I found this thread. I have been wondering what some of the acronyms stood for but was a bit intimidated to ask. Thanks to you, leggz48, for asking this ?

Pretty much any quilting related acronym's definition can be found by doing a Google search.
(I'm excluding the cutesy DD, DH, etc. familial ones.) Just add the word "quilt" to it. For instance, you can see the difference between the results you would get for a search on "OBW" vs. "OBW quilt." Obviously, you're not looking for Original Buffalo Wings or the Ohio Business Weekly. ;-) "hst" alone will bring up links to info on the Hubble Space Telescope. ;-) But "hst quilt" will target right in on the appropriate description. The answer is usually right on the first results page, and you rarely ever need to click through for further information. |
Luckily, having a teen daughter that would rather text me from her room then to walk in the livingroom to talk to me helps.
These two baffled me at first: IDK (I don't know) Str8 (straight) Although sometimes I think she gets lazy and makes them up. Took me two solid days to figure this one out. ITM Can you guess? |
In The Money?
Although I wouldn't discount the theory that she's just making them up just to drive you crazy. ;-) |

what was the context in which it was used... use ITM in a sentence so we get an idea of the usage.
my first thought was.. "I think, maybe". I love the game acromania not sure if it is still on the web anywhere. used to play it on irc (internet relay chat) if you are not familiar with irc, this might help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat apparently for itm, there are a lot of uses http://www.acronymfinder.com/ITM.html |
Just read the quilting board acronym list. Some of them are hilarious. I can just imagine Maxine typing them out. LOL
